I was going to suggest hooking up some kind of bleeder valve tee thingy 
(I was trying to find one via Google, but was having no luck) to the 
thermostat housing, but Zaphod beat me to the better solution.

BTW, I also came across a popular mechanics article that did suggest if 
the radiator isn't higher than the engine, then to jack it up.  So I 
guess the steep hill idea wasn't so unorthodox.
