He's had crews stand up for him and stand up against him. We know the Navy stands by his medals, we know he volunteered to go to Vietnam despite an easy exemption in a cushy Ivy League school, and we know he volunteered for combat. If you want to rip a guy's combat service on hear-say, that's obviously your choice.
