Hi Bryan - you don't need a sponsoring company, but with PMP you need
to have projects that you can certify you ran (company affirms) and
you need so many hours of school + experience, etc.

Six Sigma, you just need the training.  1 week gets you a green and I
can't remember how long to get the black belt.

Six Sigma is, of course, for hard core operations optimization.  I
would argue that if you want to go Six Sigma you should go all out or
don't go.  That is, you should be ready to be and want to be an
Operations Management consultant.

I'd be curious as to why you want to get these and how you plan to apply 
them.
