I think it'd be super keen if someone ran for president and got a clear majority, not just a plurality. For example, if someone got 55 or 60% of the popular vote... I think that'd be a great indication of someone's popularity and ability to trascend party lines. Problem is, neither party wants to nominate someone that the other party might like, because the nomination process now seems to weed out the moderates.
