He ran--full out--the equivalent of a city block to where this woman was being stabbed by her exboyfriend who had ambushed her after she came out of work. There were, according to the police report, 15-20 bystanders at the time, all of them closer. My friend subdued the man with the knife and had to keep the woman concious while paramedics and police came to the scene. None of the bystanders would even call 911 until my friend shouted at them to do so. The woman had been stabbed 41 times by the time of my friend's intervention. Additionally, after the exboyfriend had been subdued, my friend, in addition to keeping the woman concious, had to fend off people trying to take cheap shots (kicking) at the attacker.
