I have heard of this experience as well, but I am one to which it did
not happen. An old discussion thread I once read came up with the
theory that those who are more into the latest, hottest releases the day
they are released seem to suffer this phenomenon more then those of us
who are happy filling our ques with older material. Thus the idea that
maybe trial people are given preference so that they get first choice of
what they want until they become paying members.

I am also a loyal Netflix subscriber. I have a co-worker who now swears
by BlockBuster's program, because he can take a DVD to a store and
exchange it immediately for another one. But that still requires a trip
to a store, which is not convenient for me. As well as browsing shelves
with just the boxes and my fading memory of trailers to inform me if I
might be interested in a movie, which I find unsatisfying.

As a pure ' through the mail program' I prefer Netflix's trail blazing
and better website IMHO.
