Something like al-anon in my (pre/post)teen years may have burnished my hard-edge stance, but it wasn't available where I grew up, and it was too late once we moved to a bigger city.
Anyway, I truely meant no offence to anyone who drinks socially for personal enjoyment. I am aware that a snifter of brandy per night is not drinking to excess; my comments were more tangental than directed at that particular suggestion.
