If he's good at what he does and he's experienced, he's letting people beat
on him. People perceive web development as easy, because you can train a
chimp to do basic HTML with the WYSIWYG editors that are out there, hence
they don't want to pay for it.

What they don’t see is the difference between a professional site and a site
that looks like it was done by a three year old.

Really?? Must only be in the city centers, because I happen to know there's
a part of Maryland where a business owner I know can barely get $5 an hour
