you remember the last thread you made this demand on, it ended prematurely.

I for one, value my privacy. people know me on this list because I've
been here since it got going.

I have changed my handle, so perhaps any new lurkers may not have
known, but its been slipped enough times
that even they may know my name/nickname at this point.

There are a lot of contentious issues raised on this list, and if one
is honest with one's views, it could be detrimental.
My own views almost always seem to run contrary to the general
opinions on this list, and this is especially since the majority
representation on the list is American.

For example maybe if I were to run for public office someone could
scour the internet and see my views on various items and use it
against me.
Who knows? Some people don't have these concerns and thus can be
completely open.

One of the things about the Internet is that it affords a certain
amount of anonymity,
which can be both a good and a bad thing in allowing people to express
their views.

I am seriously opposed to some of Gruss Grott's statements, many of
which I find to be offensive and racist, elitist, and in some cases
contrary for the sake of being so. Almost every racially polarised
discussion on this list has been either started or propagated by him,
including recent discussions.

I personally talk off the cuff here, I don't sit and revise and review
what I say to ensure that it is all nice and politically correct. At
times I am downright silly. I'm quite open, as to my personality (my
posts reflect what I would do were I really speaking to you, or a
close facsimile ^_^ ) but I by no means think that this should be the
norm, or even that it is a good thing in my favor. But *shrug* I've
been a part of CF-Community for so long that I feel...comfortable
here. :)

So anonymity and the auspices under which this list is managed can
both be used to promote and facilitate discussion, as well as have the
effect of turning people away or allowing divisive commentary. That
neutrality has for the most part been kept on the list, and in general
it is probably a good thing.

I don't think that everyone should be forced to expose their true
identities, if only because this is an open list and the fact of the
matter is that people are bastards and what you say can come back at
you in the future.

For what it is worth, off list Gruss Grott did send me a short email
about himself.
I can't recall if he had his real name in it though.
