* Thank them for considering you, tell them how great they are (why
you like the company/concept/people), and how excited you are about
being an FTE with them.

* Go on to explain how much you've learned, the value you add, how
you've returned the time investment they've made in you, how you plan
to add future value and the enablers you will use to do that.

* If necessary get average compensation numbers from the internet in
your city/industry, and with competitors; also, if it's true, make a
numbers case with what they're paying you.  That is, explain that to
"keep you whole" based on your existing compensation they'll need to
pay you blah blah blah.

Combine all that and say that therefore you think $X plus the package
they've already mentioned is a competitive offer you'd definitely
accept.

Worse case scenario is that they say no and you further consider their
original.  If you stay positive, accepting, professional, and
complementary there should be little risk.  If there is risk you
should rethink if it's the right place for you.
