I really think our primary mistake was a high level delusional mis-judgement
of the Iraqi people, and their thoughts and feelings about their current
regime.

I think the Bush Admin had this ridiculous notion that common, everyday
Iraqis were sitting in their houses, stewing about how much they hated
Saddam.....and that any force who drove him out would be welcomed as
liberators.

Listen, the average iraqi is just like the average ANYBODY....they care
first and foremost about their own comfort of living...about their own
safety and security...and their own ability to lead a decent life and
support their families. Yeah they couldn't speak out publically against
Saddam, but they could get up every morning and go to work without getting
shot at. Which do you think was the more important issue to the average
Iraqi? Exactly.

I think the vast majority of our problems in Iraq all flow from this one
over-arching mistake of judgement....we've been trying to patch dozens of
issues that all spawned from this single miscalculation.
