I just found an article about it, and basically it's because with all the safety stuff and "comfort" add-ons, cars weigh more so they need bigger engines. But, seriously, how much can air bags weigh? I'd take crappy cloth seats + air bags & high MPG over surround sound, sync, chilled glove compartments, etc, & low mileage any day.
