I put up another page about Taz, not sure if any of you would want to read all
through it as it's meant more for those friends and family that knew him (and
just for me to kind of get down some of my memories of him in a tangible form
so I never forget)...but you might enjoy all the cute photos regardless!

I did get to talk to the vet that worked on him yesterday and that did clear up
a lot of questions and doubt that I had. I am pretty at peace with the
decisions I made, and while I'm still pretty ticked off at the place that
turned us away, I know that it probably wouldn't have changed the outcome. Taz
almost certainly had hemangiosarcoma, which is a very aggressive cancer in dogs
and often strikes them down quickly like this. By the time it presents, it
often has spread widely and few dogs live even with chemo more than 6 months.
In an older dog like him, we would have been lucky to even extend his life 2-3
months. I may have gotten to spend some more time at the end if he was seen
sooner, but I would have had a much harder decision to make, of whether to
operate on a dog that would only have had a few months to live at best, if he
could even survive a surgery in the critical condition he was in. But I would
have had a very very hard time letting him go in that situation, so in a way, I
do think it may have happened for the best, given what the long term outlook
would have been. It's such a quick, relatively painless death that I think any
of us would wish for our loved ones. But of course, still very painful for
those that are left behind.
