Yes, this was an issue I raised as well with using Gmail for everything.

But I understand they are now shifting to an Offline model, where you can
transfer and synchronise to desktop.
This should prevent the issue of time sensitivity to some extent, you just
won't be able to get new items until
the situation is resolved.

I'm not sure when that offline document system is going to be launched
though, anyone know?
