The getting hit for wrong answers was true though. Nothing like getting 1 wrong and having to get your calves hit with a ruler. Some teachers were nicer than other. 1 wrong answer was only 1 hit. Others were liberal multipliers. The teachers also strictly followed the code of the school yard, "one for flinching."
