Well there's a minimum level of service which is paying taxes which
pays for the infrastructure.

But then there's what you're doing to improve it.

(Right now Obama is trying to do that, and he's going to take taxes to
do it.  So paying taxes might do this as well)

One thing that would drastically improve America is a feeling of
"return to service".  As this thread shows, we all define service
differently.

One core problem is that there's no prestige in government service.
You - personally - would thank a guy in uniform but you probably
wouldn't thank one of Geithner's low level business analysts.

Yet they both serve.

But there's only prestige in one.

In other words, our country has become money, fame, and military
focused and we've forgotten about the EMT or the regulatory BA or the
Bridge Engineering admin.

And this has caused all kinds of moral ambiguity.  e.g., why is Madoff
a criminal, but Robert Rubin not?  The CitiBank CEO got a $30M bonus.
The stock is less than a dollar and you own it.  You gave him $30M.

We need to get the prestige of ALL service back.
