Or, put a simpler way - glass Actually, I've wondered in the past if it would be possible to give the radical islamic elements something of what they're demanding. They claim that the US (or Israel, or the UK... okay, the 'West') is the Great Satan. It's our un-Allah-ly influence by broadcasting our TV signals, selling our ideals and so on and such forth. At least that's what I've heard from translations of their crap in the past. Not sure if it's still the case. However, running on that idea, what about creating a RF and commercially isolated "barrier" that we place around countries like Yemen, Iran and the like which would effectively jam any RF signals into (our out of) their borders. Then we put them on a strict embargo commercially with the exception of trading with other nations that are and close them off to all external travel with the exception of people wanting to leave permanently - those would be given asylum in a friendly nation until the dust settled and we could welcome them in to the 21st centry! And if any nation tries to "break out," they have to either prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that they harbor no terrorists or face the threat of severe retaliation. Now this is just theoretical techno-babble at this point; I know what it would take to jam all signals DC-Daylight for a single physical location - the cost of reproducing it along even the smallest of borders makes nationalized health care in the US look like chump change. It's a crazy theory... consider the consequences. What if we shut Iran up behind one of these virtual iron curtains? Let their government do whatever they want with their population, they're not going to be bugging us. How about Afghanistan? Let them go back to the Taliban and poppy-farming and we'll blithely ignore what they do to their women that have been setting up schools and businesses. Point is that there is NO simple solution. You ask, "what do we do about Yemen? Kill them all?" The current administration doesn't have the stones to send in a force, especially since what stands for a government doesn't want us. As the other folks have said, Saudi seems to have something of a handle on it, let them deal with it for now. However, as a Navy vet, I remember the USS Cole - that was the work of terrorists in Yemen that detonated a rubber dinghy full of explosives against the hull of a US warship in a friendly port. If they start trying that crap again, I can't help but wonder what the impact of parking the better half of a battle group 30 miles off shore and playing war games would have.
