While Palestine in some form or another was sometimes used to refer to
the land it never represented a nation, ever. There was never a
country called Palestine. The name came from the Romans mocking the
Jews by naming it after their old enemy the Philistines. Yet it was
not actually used to represent a specific place and people until the
British thought it would be cute to bring back long extinct biblical
enemies.
