The group that the Israeli government came out of was a terrorist wing of Haganah...Irgun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irgun). It is the root of the modern Likud party.
IF you go back further, the reason the Romans booted them out was because of their terrorist activities. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. The British considered the American militia's they were fighting against in the Revolutionary War to be terrorists.
