I took all the defaults when I installed it. Maybe I'll go grab the dev edition if its free. I don't need it very long, just have to do data conversions between two apps and they need sql server.

Did you install it as a named instance (which is the default) or did you tell it to install as the default instance (which sounds weird, I know). If you did it as a named instance, I find that things get weird. It is one of the reasons I tend to use SQL Server Developer edition instead of Express on my local box. I'd uninstall it and reinstall it, making sure not to do the named instance. Or use Developer edition. Also, take a look at the Event log just to see if it is throwing any errors. judah On Thu, Jul 29, 2010 at 12:58 PM, Scott Raley <sra...@itc-llc.com> wrote: > > But even with that its own studio express should be able to connect to it > but I'll try > > -----Original Message----- > From: Judah McAuley [mailto:ju...@wiredotter.com] > Sent: Thursday, July 29, 2010 3:55 PM > To: cf-community > Subject: Re: win7 and sql 2008 express > > > TCP/IP is not enabled by default on sql express.
