"Ah, because politicians are craven and get more money from the defense industry than they do poor people."
Or they get more money from teacher unions than poor people. "Ah yes, the spoiled brat theory. The best time to kick someone is when they are down. They'll never learn until their constituents are starving in the street. Well, actually, they already are and the politicians aren't learning. So lets try kicking them harder, trash the education system further, increase childhood hunger rates and see what happens. I know that you don't actually believe that trashing the education system is a good idea, that you don't want childhood hunger rates to increase, etc. You want fiscal discipline and accountability from politicians, which is admirable. I want that too. But right now I'm a lot more concerned about having teachers in our schools, cops on the streets and children being fed." Who wants anyone to be kicked? I want the person who is down to stand up. The complete opposite of what you are saying. Also, the states need to stand on their own feet. There is so much waste in schools that the room for savings is incredible. I used to be a teacher. I am related to several teachers. I hear the stories and keep up with the news. No bid contracts for supplies. Top heavy administrations eating up huge portions of the budget. Teacher unions demanding salaries out of proportion with the market. And so on and so on and so on. "I'm actually using my money, being a taxpayer and all." Ahhh. The old standard. It wasn't hard to predict that coming. It would be great if you could designate your taxes, but you can't. So, if your okay with the federal gov't funding schools which is not a federal mandate, you shouldn't be bothered by defense spending which is a federal mandate. "If I was a politician, I'd be using other people's money as well. But that is their job." I am not sure I'd say that a politician's job is to spend other peoples money. It's what they do, but their job should be to represent their constituents. J - I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I travelled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer. - Benjamin Franklin ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology-Michael-Dinowitz/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:324724 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/unsubscribe.cfm
