The last two laptops and one desktop I bought were HP, and I used to recommend them. Two of the three failed, the first of a bad power supply about two years in, and the second of infamous crashed hard drive I've been discussing lately. Repair tech says hard drive crash was also caused by defective power supply and overheating. Now I'm having memory failure issues on the desktop. So..no more HP for this girl.
When all of the HP's in the house were not working, I reverted to my 12 year old Sony Vaio - I got eight years of solid work out of it and still works perfectly except it won't run anything later than Win98. Otherwise I would still be using it daily. Leaning toward MacBook Pro cause I can get family discount but if I don't buy a MBP, I'll probably get another Sony.
