Advocating = telling people to do it euphemism = suggesting without saying to do it advocating != euphemism
But I concede the point that the implied avocation to violence can be enough to warrant a focus on her political party if such advocation was readily known and detailed when the focus was applied. I came in late on the thread (Shabbos) so I'm not sure when the focus was applied. But I'm still not fond of the "leap then look" mentality used by many in the media (and other places) in assigning blame. It's something I'm trying to train my kids out of so it's something I associate with childishness. But that's my own rhetoric. :) On Mon, Jan 10, 2011 at 12:49 AM, denstar <valliants...@gmail.com> wrote: > > I think the point is that a politician was shot, and other politicians > have been advocating shooting folk. > > Even if it was a euphemism or some such: "Lock and Load[ your vote]!" > "RELOAD[ your vote]!" > > Can the media jump to a fact that advocating violence in politics, > even euphemistically, is not exactly a good thing? > > Would it be so bad if a lot of people were influenced by a message of > non-violence? > > I get what you're saying tho; it's too bad that The Media has to "call > out" people who were doing it, vs. just saying that it's probably not > the smartest thing to do and leaving it at that. =/ > > =) > > :Den > > -- > When people complain of life, it is almost always because they have > asked impossible things of it. > Ernest Renan > > On Sun, Jan 9, 2011 at 9:43 PM, Michael Dinowitz wrote: > > > > I wonder what the response would have been if I posted "Jewish > congresswomen > > shot in the head at point blank range". > > > > Think it though and realistically imagine your response to such a post. > Try > > to block out what you've read from this thread and the news since and > really > > think of your response.
