You assume much about why they support him. Perhaps they support him because they actually agree with his policies, or perhaps only because they so strongly disagreed with his predecessor.
That being said, I will agree with you that IF the only reason they support him is because is he black (or to be accurate, half-black) then they are in fact as racist as those who hate him for the same reason. I just don't think the former is as common as the latter.
