The point is that they were persecuted as being un-American and unpatriotic
for criticizing Bush...something that Sam claimed was ok to do prior to
Obama. What happened to them is exactly what Sam is claiming what is
happening to anyone who criticizes Obama.

Nothing "happened" to the DC's...they did it to themselves. If you are a
singer, and you choose to make politics part of your shtick, then you have
to be willing to take the consequences that come along with that decision.

It was totally their right to do what they did, and in a way it's pretty
courageous and commendable. They knew their audience was a fairly
conservative one, so they had to know they were going to take a huge hit
when they started making political statements at their concerts. And boy did
they.

I even liked some of their early music, as much as I dislike country. That
"earl" song always made me laugh.
