You will want to get a Financial Power of Attorney anyway for all of
his finances if he is still in clear enough mind to sign one. Even
the most trivial stuff will require it. Also, make sure all of his
bank accounts have someone designed as Pay on Death (POD) or as a
joint signee on the account so you will be able to get to the money if
necessary. You will also want a Durable Power of Attorney for Health
Care and an Advanced Directive.

Never have I been so thankful that I have the paperwork in order than
this week. The funeral home would not even let me pick out a casket
until I produced the Power of Attorney for Health Care because I was
not Dan's wife.

The worst of it was dealing with Priceline on our travel reservations.
They refused to change the driver on the rental car, or the
reservation on the hotel from him to me. I had to cancel them and
rebook at higher prices. To say I am furious would be an
understatement.
