I agree with Judah about contacting the VA, but also contact the social services offices in the county they live in to find out if she will be eligible for any low income based benefits. Also, contact United Health Care to determine if she is eligible to continue that policy on Cobra. Do not let any time pass without her being covered, because getting insurance for someone who does not have it but has pre-existing conditions is all but impossible because those provisions of the health care act do not start until 2014.
