The liver is apparently a big concern with NSAIDs too, at least in dogs. In
humans I gather they are more dangerous to the kidneys. But the choices as
presented are: surgery, $2000-$8000, might kill her, vet may or may not
agree to even attempt it because of her age; NSAIDs, $200+ a month, likely
to kill her within 6 months (but she's 14 so maybe by then it will be time.
On the other hand, tough luck if it's not.); or euthanasia now. All of
these seem like overkill for occasional sharp pain though. Remember, she's
fine except in the Sphinx position, which makes her yelp and shift to her
side. Anyone ever hear of a home novocaine injection kit for dogs?

Shrug, I guess I'll look into the Tramadol since Gruss has tried it, unless
a better idea happens along. Anyone have any suggestions for some
medication I could plug into Google Scholar?
