Unity is pretty simple, it makes a windows app run in its own context. Making it appear to be a Mac app. There is an app called WineBottler that's supposed to do the same thing, but no windows required. I haven't had a chance to try it, but for SSmS, I have not run across a windows application that doesn't have an equal or better Mac version.
