heh kick the students on the way in and then on the way out. Then on
the way in and out again if it's for grad school. ;)

The repeated coursework entry makes all kinds of sense and is completely
fair. More than fair, probably.

Rebate Elimination

The Federal Direct Loan Program will no longer offer upfront rebates on
origination fees starting with loans disbursed after July 1, 2012. The
origination fee for Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans
remains at 1.0%. The origination fee for PLUS loans remains at 4.0%.

Grade Period Interest Subsidy Elimination

Federal Subsidized Direct Loans disbursed between July 1, 2012 and July
1, 2014 will no longer receive a grace period interest subsidy. For
loans disbursed between these dates, interest will accrue to the student
during the six month grace period provided to students when they are no
longer enrolled at least half-time.

Subsidized Direct Loan Elimination for Graduate Students

Beginning July 1, 2012, graduate and professional students are no longer
eligible to receive Federal Direct Subsidized Loans. The graduate Direct
Loan program will become entirely unsubsidized, which means loans will
accrue interest while a student is in school. The annual loan limit for
graduate and professional students remains unchanged at $20,500. This
change does not affect Federal Direct Subsidized Loans previously borrowed.

Pell Grant Changes – effective July 1, 2012

Students may receive a Pell award for a maximum of 12 semesters (6
annual awards).
The annual Pell grant maximum remains at $5,550. However, the maximum
Expected Family Contribution (EFC) for Pell eligibility has been reduced
to 4995.

Repeated Coursework

Federal aid will not pay for the third attempt of a class already
successfully completed. When a passing grade is earned, federal aid will
only pay for one additional attempt for the same course
