I bet, nothing else to do out there unless you like outdoor activities in
the spring while you got 2 feet + snow on the ground... I have seen my fair
share of maple syrup producers, they are like ice fishermen and that's
speaking kindly. I know there are the corporate players making it for
global consumption but all in all, it's a mom and pop operation with a lot
of drinking involved = good thing.

Some stats

Quebec 6,300,000 US gallons
Vermont 1,140,000 US gallons
New York 564,000 US gallons
Maine 360,000 US gallons

Wisconsin, Ohio, New Hampshire, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and
Connecticut all produced marketable quantities of maple syrup of less than
120,000 US gallons (450,000 l) each in 2011
