Sounds like their calls for a Global Caliphate. I think we are beyond the age of empires. We have a hard enough time maintaining democracy in our own country without the strain of trying to be an empire as well. I don't think they could be compatible, empires require ruthless central leadership, they require kings and dictators. And if I have to choose between democracy and empire, I'm going to choose democracy every time, even when it is harder and less certain.
