My first thought is why do you need your DirectTV hooked up to the
Internet?  The second thought would be to have the cable/DirectTV guy run a
second cable port into the other room - if that is allowed by your
landlord, and I can't see why it wouldn't be.

I have a wireless router connected to the cable modem that runs my Roku and
a couple of laptops from anywhere in house.
