if you compare the rate to other large scale economic downturns, while
not as good as the previous one, the current climb is much better than
what happened in the great depression, given the same time period. In
fact, the great depression offered a natural experiment. In 1936-1937,
the government withdrew stimulus money, and unemployment shot up and
industrial output decreased a lot.
