If the person has forced himself into your home, who cares what his story is.
Here's one that will grab ya. There was a guy (Tueller ?sp?) who shot a knife wielder in his living room from just 21 feet away. The guy had broken into his house. The DA prosecuted him for murder. His lawyer proved in court, thus giving way for the Tueller Rule, that a guy wielding a knife could close 21 feet and stab you, before you could pull the trigger on the gun you are pointing at him.
