They play the Chosen People card, which buys them lots of supporters. In some places it is political suicide to make any statement against Israel.. In some churches they teach that any opposition to Israel will send you straight to hell.
Inn fairness to the Israeli people, they are surrounded by a lot of enemies. But their tactics often consist of actions that should not be tolerated. But they are, for the reasons above. I never understood the failure to reconcile the differences until I read a book by John Michener called The Source. Really good explanation of the troubles in that area. I never understood the reason for the failure of diplomacy until I tried to have some conversations about it with people on both sides. There is simply no getting them to see the issues of the other side. Rarely have I encountered such strong confirmation bias on both sides of an issue.
