All your data automatically uploads to the iCloud, whether you realized it or not. Until you turn it off. Even now with the iPhone 6, police can't un-ecrypt your phone but they can access the your iCloud where it isn't encrypted. Apparently the iCloud was easy pickings for 4chan users to grab and post. Some of these celebs said they deleted the images many years ago and had no idea they still existed. I haven't kept up, but last I heard Apple was blaming users again saying the accounts were hacked individually because the passwords were easy to guess. I'm not sure I believe that but it could be true.
