One of my best friends is a pilot and he is very very against having a gun. To many
bad things can happen. What he does really want is the much improved door. If there
is trouble what he would do is both the captain and co-captain would put there O2
masks on and then turn the oxygen content in the cabin way down knocking people
out(they do this all the time to put kids to sleep). That plus the ax they are
carrying is enough. But it really boils down to the door being secured. And on the
drinking American West thing......he told me of many more stories when he was on call
of him bailing out pilots who were to drunk.........they just never made the news.

Sorry for my previous post, but you got my blood BOILING.

Not a you issue so much, but it caught me completely off guard. I thought I was doing
pretty good with all of this. It looks like I was wrong.

Read a little bit on forced landings. They don't often go very well. And if there is
a couple of guys behind you/on top of you, stabbing and cutting you with a razor
blade, it is going to be a bit difficult to concentrate on landing.

I don't blame the pilots on 9/11 for not fighting back. They thought, as you stated
(and as I thought at the time) that if they just went along with the jerks, things
would work out OK. The pilots were most likely taped up. Then killed. Not a lot they
could do about it, and I am sure it came as a horrible shock when they realized
passivity did not equal safety.

The terrorists then said that if the passengers cooperated, everything would be
alright. They bought that line, too. There was nothing in the history of the world (as
we knew it to be then) that made them think people would do such a horrible thing.
Right up to the time the plane went into the Pentagon, the people on the plane who
were talking on cell phones still thought they had a chance. The PA group heard about
the other 3 planes, and realized this was not a "normal" hijacking.

> Do you know how to read? Have you read ANYTHING since 9/11?

I read what I needed to, I didn't read EVERY article, and since the UK
news didn't cover in as much detail as the US news did, I didn't catch
every little detail!

I'm sorry if I mis-understood that the pilots weren't in control, the
way I heard/read the news, it wasn't mentioned

> The groups of terrorists trained to fly the planes. And to
> navigate the planes. And were armed. And the majority of the
> people on the plane thought like you - "Let them take over
> the plane. What harm could it do? They'll just fly to Cuba
> or something."

Check my post, I actually said;
> They could have told him they were going there, but done a forced
> landing out in the middle of no-where, thus taking away the threat

My personal opinion would be to force the plane onto the ground, that
way the hijacker is powerless

Or am I over-simplifying things here?
