Something to help put UNC creation into context is that it was created to succeed where the League of Nations failed before it. The LON was created so that wars like WW1 would never happen again. With that failure it would be reasonable to see why folks thought an organization like the UN needs more clout.
The UN is not about a single world government, that kind of agenda is really only put forward by organizations like the World Federalist Organization, http://www.wfa.org/ Most UN folks I know really only care about the big issues like human rights, environment and poverty etc. -----Original Message----- From: Timothy Heald [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, September 06, 2002 3:34 PM To: CF-Community Subject: RE: U.S., UK launch major Iraq airstrikes See that was not the original intent of the UN. Originally it was supposed to be a means by which States could communicate, and in rare cases bring so called rouge states back into the fold. Diplomacy over war. Not world government. Now that was the original intent as it was released to the public. You have to remember that the US charter member was Alger Hiss, who was later arrested and convicted of being a communist and a spy. This is the man who represented us. He was representative of many of the leaders who helped form this organization. Truth be told I am not sure if at very high levels there has ever been any other plan than to try and unify the world under a single government. I don't think I will ever understand those people who think that one government can meet the needs and desires of all the people on this planet. I mean our federal government makes such a mess out of it all the time. Why should I trust a government that is even further removed from my control, one that I would have even less rights under? Don't know. I am not a big fan of the UN.
