AIDS Panel Choice Wrote of a 'Gay Plague' Views of White House Commission Nominee Draw Criticism
By Ceci Connolly Washington Post Staff Writer Thursday, January 23, 2003; Page A01 The Bush administration has chosen Jerry Thacker, a Pennsylvania marketing consultant who has characterized AIDS as the "gay plague," to serve on the Presidential Advisory Commission on HIV and AIDS. [snip] In his speeches and writings on his Web site and elsewhere, Thacker has described homosexuality as a "deathstyle" rather than a lifestyle and asserted that "Christ can rescue the homosexual." After word of his selection spread among gays in recent days, some material disappeared from the Web site. Earlier versions located by The Washington Post that referred to the "gay plague," for instance, were changed as of yesterday to "plague." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A30410-2003Jan22.html It gets better, this guy graduated from Bob Jones University and was on staff of the same institution. As you know up until recently the university preached and practiced racial segregation, and the founder, Bob Jones, frequently preached that the pope was the anti-Christ. Anti-catholicism is still a hallmark of this so-called university. And this was a place that GW Bush was eager to visit during the 2000 election. Yep this is a wonderful example of G W Bush's compassionate conservatism. Next thing you know the administration will be advocating concentration camps for aids victims. This is quite disgusting. Worldwide, there are far more straight AIDS victims now, and the percentage of men and women with HIV/AIDS are almost equal. You would figure that Bush et al would at least get into the 20th century, let alone the 21st. Instead they seem to be stuck in the 19th century. larry -- Larry C.
