Michelle, I think one of the reasons France does what it does is that Sadam buys tons of weapons from France and additionally has promised France some very cheap oil contracts. Russia also has similar deals with Iraq.
Additionally, most french pretty much dislike anything middle eastern. They feel their country is being swamped by middle eastern people who are willing to work for cheap wages and take their jobs. But then most french think too highly of themselves to work as a waiter anyway. So, its kind of a funny two face thing(IMHO). They always acuse the US of being two faced but then they respond to what is pretty much a straight bribe from Saddam putting millions of people into the path of future terrorism.
