I think that, in some ways, you are right. However, I tend to look at
things from the point of view that intent is more important than words.
When I talk about a "cheese-eatin' surrrrrrrender monkey" I'm not saying it
to be mean to the French, I'm saying it because I think Groundskeeper Willie
is hilarious.
On the same token, when Nick McClure teases me about being out in the back
end of nowhere with the rednecks and hillbillies, I don't take offense
because I know he means it in fun. Right? Right?!?!?!?
If I ever offend anyone, I'm sorry. That's rarely my intent (and hasn't
ever been, here, that I recall). If I do offend you, I hope you bring it
up. All I ask is that people take what I say/type in the spirit I intend
it.

: It's not just this thread in particular. In fact, this thread
: turned into a
: friendly word-play more than anything.

: But there has been a fairly steady anti-Gallic sentiment lately
: everywhere I
: turn that has been more than just a political disagreement with the French
: government. When jokes talk about how the French all smell bad or are
: "surrender monkeys", how is that different than saying that the
: Japanese are
: all "slopeheads", blacks are all criminals, or Jews are all greedy? I
: honestly don't see the difference.
