I have to back up the Dell choices as well. Since you will be travelling around, accidents are likely, and a good warranty is worth it's weight in gold.
We have a Dell Lattitude c840, and while it's a bit on the chunky side, it's a hell of a machine, and we're running two batteries in it to give 5 hours of battery life. (that'll get you over here to the UK ;) ) Yes, peeps, yes, they are more expensive, but I look at this as a business investment, and with the warranty in place I know if I have problems Dell WILL fix it. And they have been here, next day service and all! Another programmer I know has a Dell laptop and he had practically trashed it, prolly dropped it a few times, and the screen was hanging on by a thread along with a few other problems. With only a few months to go on his warranty, they had it completely fixed, in a couple of days if I remember correctly, no extra charges. So given that Sandy travels all over the country and soon to be Europe, a quality machine backed by superb warranty is going to be a huge factor I would think. And since Dell of course sells docking stations for all their models, it makes that an even easier proposition. But what the hell do I know. ;) Here everyone, have a pan of fresh baked blueberry muffins .... ;) >>| -----Original Message----- >>| From: BethF [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] >>| Sent: Wednesday, March 19, 2003 6:10 AM >>| To: CF-Community >>| Subject: Re: Notebook Recommendations >>| >>| >>| i have a dell laptop and love it >>| get the extended warranty - it truly is you break it, they fix it. >>| ----- Original Message ----- >>| From: "Ben Braver" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >>| To: "CF-Community" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >>| Sent: Tuesday, March 18, 2003 3:50 PM >>| Subject: Re: Notebook Recommendations >>| >>| >>| > The brand-new Dell Inspiron 600M has the Intel Centrino technology >>| > announced last week. >>| > Integrated modem, Ethernet, and WiFi. >>| > Longer battery life. >>| > Up to 768 MB RAM >>| > Up to 60 GB HD >>| > Processor speeds to "only" 1.6 GHz, but the Centrino >>| package supposedly >>| > equates to a higher cpu speed, much like AMD. >>| > On-die 1 MB L2 cache. >>| > 400 MHz bus. >>| > Starts at 4.98 pounds. >>| > Up to 1400x1050 res, with 64 MB ATI Radeon 9000 4X AGP. >>| > >>| > -Ben >>| > >>| > >>| > >>| > At 07:45 PM 3/18/03 -0500, you wrote: >>| > >Okay, I've made a major decision in terms of my >>| computing environment. >>| > >After last weeks conference, I want to buy a laptop >>| computer which will >>| > >also suffice for my desktop as well (via a docking >>| station so that I can >>| > >have my large monitor and keyboard).
