The hostage crisis lasted 444 days and it was very frustrating and emotions ran high.  
We were in high school and having a small protest was our way of letting off steam.  

Did it accomplish anything - no.

Did we think it would - no, not really.

For some of us, yes, I guess it was a way to cut class but, if I remember correctly, 
most of us were really concerned about what was happening over there.
