One of the major premises for going to war was to enforce a U.N. mandate
issued at the end of the first Gulf war.
Soverignty, by definition, means that one possesses supreme rank or
power and recognizes no authority over its own.
If we are a soverign nation, why would we be fighting to enforce a U.N.
mandate or using it as a justification for our actions?
It's funny when people start talking about soverignty and the fact we
have a right to do whatever we want. Iraq was a soverign nation too,
and, no matter how bad the management, no one has the right to tell them
to do otherwise if they are a soverign nation.
By your logic, nothing illegal happened ever could have happened under
Saddam's government. The moment we think we act without responsibility
to the rest of the world, we abandon all standards of accountability to
which to hold other governments.
