Per my other post:

Also be aware that muscle mass weight much more than fat. If you workout and
diet you may actually gain weight while loosing inches because you are
adding muscle mass to your frame. So if you diet and lift weights it screws
things up a bit on the calculations.

Subject: RE: Cardio (was Atkins)

I'm with Beth in this area.
"I can do cardio until the cows come home and not lose a pound"

I have always been a chubby kid. Always.
Then at 16, my doctor said I had a thyroid problem and put me on thyroid
meds, I dropped about 30 pounds .... but over the years, new doctors
didn't keep me on the medication and I put the weight back on.

So when I was training horses (an extremely physical day in and day out
job) I also worked out. 6 days a week. After the horses were put away at
noon, I'd change into gym gear, and I'd jog 2 miles around the sand
track (hell of alot harder than a treadmill, even on an incline.) EVERY
DAY (except Sunday). Then I would head to the gym, and do the cycle for
30 minutes. Play some raquetball some days. Hours of it. Then every
other day I'd make the weight circuit.

I lost a grand total of almost 30 pounds those years. I couldn't drop
anymore. I ate breakfast lunch and dinner. I did not eat badly. I like
healthy foods. The horses took a lot of physical energy. I had great
muscles and I could lift a 100lb sack of oats no problem ...but I could
not for the life of me lose anymore. I was still pudgy. To me. I know
muscle took up some of the weight ... and my BMI was probably ok ... but
I couldn't get under a size 16 to save my life.

I don't know, maybe some people's bodies are just meant to be the way
they are when that plateau comes. I know I am large boned ... but still.
Meh.

These days, I love a size 16 ... I wouldn't mind being that way the rest
of my life.

Cheers,
Erika

I can do cardio until the cows come home and not lose a pound.  for some
of us, its more than exercise.  I need to diet and LIFT.  Cardio isn't
as important as lifting.

Its counterintuitive, I know, and I can't explain it myself, but its the
way it is.
