Was the system connected to the network during the installation of the
system? We had a massive problem with Blaster here and there were systems
that were being installed that got it before any patches or A/V software
could be installed.

What our institution ended up doing was downloading all the patches to a CD,
and when bringing up a new machine there was no ethernet cable allowed near
it until the patches had been installed while the machine was still offline.

Another approach was to use an inexpensive home router with NAT giving
enough protection to allow the box to be online but shielded while patching
and installing A/V software.
