Hmmm, I could have sworn I converted an album I downloaded from iTunes
over to MP3 directly to put on my minidisk player. Maybe I did have it
convert as I burned it to cd.

Quick note - you can't just convert iTunes Music Store downloaded AAC
files to MP3 directly in iTunes using that method.  You can do it for
unprotected AAC, MP4, WAV, AIFF, etc. files, though.
