Hi Jeffry, I am a recruiter and I review about 125 resumes / cover letters a week. You can ask a dozen recrutiers / Hiring Managers about cover letters and you'll get a dozen different perspectives. Personally, I don't pay too much attention to cover letters. Like a lot of recruiters, I'm so pressed for time, I have about 10 secs to review each resume so I scan quickly (I go right to your current employer and job description and look for just how much CF you have and what you've done with it). From there, I go back about 6 years.
I do breeze over cover letters, however and I would suggest short and sweet, pointing out very specific experience w/ CF. Since it's brief and electronic, tweak each letter to match the job.
