I think almost any job has things that should be done together and things
that don't necessarily need to be done together; and in some working
environments those things are well-segregated and in others they aren't.  In
cases where significant time (>= 20%) is spent doing things by oneself, and
that time is (or can be) segregated from the time spent doing things with
others, workers and employers should look hard at enabling remote work.
Done right - and given the tools and practices available today, that
shouldn't be too hard - it's a win-win situation for everybody.

Adam R., you make an excellent point.  The US is just catching up to what
Europe's been paying for gas for many years now.  Of course in the meantime
you've surged ahead too.  ;-)  Thanks for the different perspective!
